Five individuals lost their lives in a tragic incident on the Scioto River in Powell, Ohio. Authorities reported that the group had been at the river on Sunday when one person entered the water for a swim and began to struggle. As others attempted a rescue, they also found themselves in difficulty.

Delaware County Sheriff Jeffrey Balzer shared that the incident came to light after a motorist discovered a frightened child from the group running along a nearby road. The motorist called 911, leading to the dispatch of rescue crews.

On Sunday, rescue teams located two women, who were transported to a hospital where they were pronounced dead. A search on Monday led to the discovery of the bodies of three men in the river, confirmed by Tracy Whited, spokesperson for the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department.
