Keenan Allen’s Future with Indianapolis Colts Amid DUI Arrest

Keenan Allen remains with the Indianapolis Colts after being arrested for DUI on Sunday. General Manager Chris Ballard defended retaining the veteran wide receiver despite the incident. Ballard highlighted Allen’s character, stating, “Good people make mistakes.” He urged giving Allen grace while he navigates the legal system.

Allen joined the Colts later in training camp, providing insurance for an injured Alec Pierce. His one-year contract began on August 19, marking a reunion with head coach Shane Steichen, who previously worked with Allen in Los Angeles. Former Colts quarterback Philip Rivers endorsed Allen, having been teammates with him at the Chargers.

“Fourteen years in a league, no issues,” Ballard noted, reflecting on Allen’s career and the positive relationship with Rivers and Steichen. “And after you meet his mom and dad who are just amazing people, we feel good about who he is.”

Allen participated in one preseason game before his arrest in downtown Indianapolis. Police investigated upon finding his vehicle in a no-parking zone, noting signs of intoxication. He faces misdemeanor charges for driving under the influence and a blood-alcohol level of at least 0.08%.

Allen was processed at the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center and released hours later. His blood-alcohol reading hasn’t been disclosed, nor has his bond amount. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will decide on charges, while the NFL monitors the situation. Allen might face discipline under the league’s Personal Conduct Policy, which currently addresses several issues.

His court appearance is scheduled for September 16, shortly after the Colts’ opener against the Ravens.
