Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed confidence in Tony Romo’s ability to handle his recent arrest for operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) in Wisconsin. Jones maintained strong support for Romo, his former quarterback, during an interview with KDFW Fox 4.

Romo, who spent 13 seasons with the Cowboys, was arrested on July 23 on multiple charges, including OWI and alleged possession of an open alcohol container in his car. Despite these events, Jones shared his certainty in Romo working through these challenges.

“I love him,” Jones stated. “I love his character and his love of the sport. He has always demonstrated resilience and can handle adversity. He will work through this.”

Romo’s arrest has become a topic of interest in the NFL, especially as training camps started last week. Police bodycam footage showed Romo, after participating in the Wisconsin Amateur Golf Championship, denying any alcohol consumption and questioning police suspicions of intoxication.

Following the arrest, Romo was taken to a nearby station where he completed field sobriety tests. He declined a breath test, citing legal advice he received.

The incident led CBS Sports to place Romo, who became their top NFL analyst in 2017, on leave. The network announced former Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt would replace Romo alongside Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson during his absence.

Throughout his NFL career, Romo accumulated 34,183 passing yards, 248 touchdowns, and 117 interceptions, achieving a 65.3% pass completion rate. His retirement on April 4, 2017, coincided with his transition to an analyst role with CBS.
