Junior running back Jonsean Young faced a knee injury during summer training, delaying his season start for Morgan Park. Recovered from the setback, Young rediscovers his passion and determination to excel on the field. “I realized how much I missed everything and wanted to be back,” Young expressed confidently. “I never fold under pressure.”
Young demonstrated his skills Saturday, with a pivotal 32-yard run setting his own go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter. Morgan Park secured a 20-6 victory against Simeon at Rockne Stadium, Chicago. Junior quarterback Ronald Smith Jr. contributed with a 54-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Travezz Jones, leading Morgan Park (5-1, 3-0) to its fifth consecutive win.
In the fourth quarter, Young’s 1-yard touchdown broke a 6-6 tie. “We needed that so badly,” acknowledged junior defensive end Milen Porter, who recorded two sacks and seven tackles. He praised Young for his perseverance through injuries. “He runs really hard. I applaud him.”
Morgan Park’s offense showed limited activity post a notable 64-yard touchdown by junior running back William Smith Jr. on the second play. Reflecting on Young’s resilience, Smith noted, “As soon as he came back, he had a hungry mentality.” This game marked Young’s third since returning, boasting efficiency with four touchdowns across limited playtime.
Young participated only in the second half against Simeon, achieving 61 yards on seven carries. “The coaches have been careful about my playing time and working me back, but I was fresh when I got in there,” he remarked. Young capitalized on opportunities, “I took that as an opportunity to run the ball, and I ran hard.”
Describing himself at about 95% healthy, Young excels in burst and cutback abilities, embracing physical challenges. His determination stems from a longstanding family tradition in football, with cousin Bucky Irving of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a role model. “Football just goes back generations beyond generations in my family,” Young shared. His aspiration to make football a career mirrors that of his cousin, having watched him over the years.
Beyond football, Young enjoys entrepreneurship, designing shirts and clothes, inspired by his brothers. “I first learned about it probably three years ago,” Young recalled. His vision includes playing at college level and making strides in his future career.
