Few figures in recent history have caused as much upheaval as Jeffrey Epstein. Convicted as a sex offender, he was linked to the world’s wealthiest and most influential individuals. Epstein’s life and actions led to significant legal, political, financial, and reputational consequences worldwide. He died in prison in 2019.
Public Fascination and Government Transparency
The public interest in Epstein grew after President Trump initially refused to release federal records concerning Epstein, despite promises to do so. Eventually, in late 2025 and early 2026, Congress and the Justice Department released millions of pages of documents. These records have provided some clarity, although many questions remain unanswered.
The New York Times has undertaken extensive investigations into Epstein’s financial dealings, his network of enablers, and potential co-conspirators since his 2019 arrest on federal sex-trafficking charges. Here are the latest findings from these investigations.
Harvard Club Controversy
Recent revelations have brought to light Epstein’s connections in elite circles. Andrew Farkas, an alumnus and donor to Harvard, maintained a devoted friendship with Epstein, as revealed in Justice Department files. Farkas has chaired the Hasty Pudding Institute of 1770 since 2012. This cultural organization operates independently from the university but is located in a Harvard building named after Farkas’s father.
Currently, petitions from students, faculty, and alumni are urging the institute and Harvard University to sever ties with Farkas and to rename the building.
