Israeli Ambassador Criticizes UN Rep Over Blacklist on Sexual Violence

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, confronted Vanessa Frazier in a heated discussion. Frazier, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, played a role in adding Israel to a sexual violence blacklist.

The exchange took place during a UN meeting commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict. Danon accused Frazier of yielding to pressure that unfairly targeted Israel.

You caved to the pressure. You caved to the Secretary General’s obsession with targeting Israel, Danon stated, interrupting Frazier’s remarks.

Frazier attempted to reply, but Danon insisted she allow him to finish speaking.

No, you will be quiet, because I’m speaking now! You spoke, now I speak, Danon shouted.

According to the United Nations Secretary-General’s office, Israeli entities were placed in the annex of the UN’s annual Conflict-Related Sexual Violence report. This included the Israel Defense Forces, Israel Prison Services, and the country’s border police Counter Terrorism Unit. The report, led by Secretary-General António Guterres, accused these units of involvement in sexual violence.

Danon had previously criticized the UN’s decision and considered freezing relations with Guterres’ office.

In a statement to Fox News, Danon’s office condemned the report as a significant moral failure. Israel has been placed on a blacklist alongside Hamas, ISIS, and Boko Haram. This is a moral disgrace, he said.

On Friday, Danon demanded the resignation of UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Pramila Patten, who wasn’t present at the meeting. Frazier’s attempt to defend Patten was also rebuffed.

Ms. Patten was invited here, she chose not to be here. Shame on you, Danon declared.

Danon asserted Israel’s cooperation with the UN was ignored. He accused Patten of supporting a biased campaign against Israel. He questioned the verification of facts and called for accountability.

If verifying the facts is not Ms. Patten’s responsibility, then what exactly is her responsibility? Danon asked.

Danon’s office plans to file a formal complaint over the interruptions during the meeting. Fox News reached out to spokespeople for Patten and Frazier but has not received a response.
