Israel and Lebanon have reached a ceasefire agreement, announced on Wednesday, aiming to halt ongoing hostilities. However, the deal notably excludes Hezbollah, a significant Iranian-backed militant group engaged in the conflict within Lebanon.
Meetings took place at the U.S. State Department in Washington, with reports confirming the agreement to cease hostilities. Nonetheless, Hezbollah, not a member of the Lebanese government, was absent from the negotiations.
Following the announcement, Hezbollah has yet to provide any official comment regarding the ceasefire. This leaves uncertainty surrounding the militant group’s stance on the deal and its potential impact on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
Speaking to the media after the announcement, Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, provided insights outside the State Department on Wednesday. The Trump administration has been involved in facilitating discussions between Israel and Lebanon in pursuit of this agreement.
