The court’s oversight body will now conduct elections for a new prosecutor. The U.S. administration has imposed financial penalties and travel bans on several members of ICC staff, including Khan.
Khan’s lawyers criticized the process, asserting that Khan was not given a fair chance to present his case. Khan’s attorney stated the decision defied conclusions from independent judges examining the evidence.
The global tribunal faces pressure from international politics. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced plans to dismantle the ICC’s threat to U.S. sovereignty and discourage member states from cooperating with the tribunal.
