MECHANICSVILLE, Maryland: Hunter Lawrence closed a 10-point gap behind his brother Jett Lawrence at the Budds Creek National motocross event. By recovering points in both motos, Hunter regained the lead in the championship standings by a single point as they approach the season finale.
Race Overview
Jett Lawrence’s struggles at the start were a key factor in the races. His starts were problematic, leading to a challenging day on the track. In the first moto, he started from the 22nd position, and in the second, from the 10th. Despite making progress during the races, these initial setbacks caused delays that affected his ability to compete for top positions. Consequently, Jett finished fourth overall, with 5-3 results.
The poor starts were significant, marking just the third time in Jett’s career that he did not finish on the overall podium. Notably, this was the first instance without any crash or penalty affecting the outcome. This development sets up a decisive championship showdown at Ironman next week.
Podium Contenders
Jorge Prado maintained his position as a strong podium contender, landing second overall with third-place finishes in both motos. Prado kept Hunter in sight during the races but faded slightly towards the end, allowing Jett to pass him in a dramatic downhill maneuver for second place during the final lap.
The race dynamic further unfolded with Haiden Deegan securing second place in Moto 1 after achieving the holeshot. Despite a poor start in Moto 2, Deegan remained competitive. Haarup consistently stayed among the top five and concluded the event in fifth overall.
- Moto 1 Results: Haiden Deegan takes second.
- Moto 2 Results: Prado and Jett battle for podium spots, with Jett securing second.
- Overall Standings: Hunter Lawrence leads into finale.
