Financial planner Christopher Price suggests that individuals with low-interest mortgages should extend their payments. “Financially speaking, if I have a 2.5 percent mortgage, I would rather pay them as slowly and as long as I can,” Price notes.
Surprisingly, nearly one in four homeowners accelerate their mortgage payments beyond the required schedule. This trend is apparent despite the advantages of maintaining a slower repayment pace for those with minimal interest rates.
Rocket Mortgage, a major lender, has revealed this emerging pattern. The company examined early repayment data on its nearly 3 million loans over the past five years across all 50 states. This analysis provides insight into homeowner payment behavior and highlights an unexpected inclination towards quicker mortgage settlement.
