School administrators swiftly suspended the principal of a West Virginia high school after officials discovered recording devices in multiple locker rooms. The investigation centers on Eric James, 53, who served as principal of Brooke High School in Wellsburg.
Authorities reported finding four devices in the female physical education locker rooms, including a separate locker room and a dressing area used by the school’s dance team. This information comes from reports by WTOV 9.
“Yesterday, after students were released, Brooke County Schools was informed of a criminal investigation into allegations that a recording device was placed in a locker room at Brooke High School,” a memo from the school system stated.
The devices were removed from campus with help from school security officers, staff, and law enforcement. Reports also indicate additional devices were confiscated from James’ home.
James is currently held at the Northern Regional Jail in Marshall County, West Virginia, with bond set at $100,000. Charges against him include two felony counts: one for intentionally intercepting or attempting to intercept communications and another for breaking and entering a nonresidence.
The school system committed to meeting with students, parents, and staff to provide support during ongoing investigations.
Officials emphasized their commitment to the safety, security, and privacy of students. They stated that any behavior compromising these values is unacceptable and assured full cooperation with law enforcement. Additionally, the school is conducting its own investigation.
