Armed Bystander’s Courageous Response

An armed bystander, Jordan Salinas, 35, a healthcare worker, intervened during a shooting at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in southern Idaho. His actions diverted the gunman and potentially saved lives. Salinas, who arrived with his girlfriend, found himself in a scene of panic. Witnessing people flee and hearing gunshots, he confronted the threat with his semiautomatic pistol.

The gunman, Chad Williams, 24, was firing at cars from the drive-thru window. Salinas responded by firing his weapon at Williams. During the altercation, Salinas described feeling no fear, stating that he felt it was necessary to respond to the situation.

Tragic Outcomes

The shooting resulted in four fatalities, including the gunman, and injuries to seven others. Williams died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Among the injured, two were critically wounded while others were treated and released.

Sheriff and Police Chief Commend Bystander

Authorities praised Salinas and an off-duty state trooper for their actions. Twin Falls County Sheriff Jack Johnson expressed gratitude, acknowledging their role in diverting the shooter and saving lives. Similarly, Police Chief Matthew Hicks commended their bravery, noting the off-duty officer and citizen helped reduce casualties.

“These people are true heroes in our community,” Johnson stated.

Investigative Efforts

Law enforcement is probing into the shooter’s motives. Williams’s family is cooperating with the investigation. Hicks assured that the suspect acted alone and encouraged witnesses to provide information.

Salinas’s Preparedness

Salinas shared insights on his preparedness, highlighting how previous events motivated his training. Concerns for his wheelchair-bound brother’s safety were pivotal in honing his skills. Though accustomed to practice, Saturday marked a significant moment for Salinas, who never aimed his gun at anything before.

Following the incident, Salinas expressed gratitude for the support received, emphasizing solidarity with the victims and their families. His resolve remained focused on sharing a detailed account when capable.

Loss of In-N-Out Employee

Among the victims was an In-N-Out employee. Lynsi Snyder, the chain’s owner, mourned the loss, expressing heartfelt pain for the personnel affected during the tragedy. Snyder emphasized mourning alongside the victims’ families during this challenging period.

In-N-Out Chief Operating Officer Denny Warnick echoed this sentiment, emphasizing collaboration with authorities in the ongoing investigation.

Idaho welcomed the restaurant chain’s expansion with the opening of the Twin Falls location on July 24. The community and chain continue to grapple with the incident’s aftermath.
