The tragic passing of actress Hayden Panettiere has been attributed to a combination of toxic substances, according to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office. The office confirmed that Panettiere died from the effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine. The manner of death was declared an accident.
On August 16, 2026, at around 1:51 PM, emergency services received a 911 call about a cardiac arrest on Easley Bridge Road in Greenville. First responders and Emergency Medical Services arrived and found Panettiere unresponsive. Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at 2:32 PM.
The Greenville County Coroner’s Office, along with Greenville City Police Department, began an investigation. Panettiere, 36, was temporarily staying at the residence where she was found. A Board Certified Forensic Pathologist conducted an autopsy, revealing no trauma but confirming death due to the substances mentioned previously.
Following the discovery, Panettiere’s boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, and his brother, Zach, reported her condition to authorities. Hickerson later provided medication Panettiere had been taking. Zach was visibly upset during the incident, while Hickerson showed emotion after her death was confirmed.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) was contacted to assist with the investigation. Panettiere’s representatives criticized speculative stories about her final hours, asking people to respect her memory and those grieving. They encouraged anyone with helpful information to contact law enforcement rather than spreading rumors.
Her team highlighted that the full story of Panettiere’s death is still unfolding, and those close to her are cooperating with the ongoing investigation to ensure truth and justice are served.
