John Harbaugh has taken over as the New York Giants head coach after almost two decades with the Baltimore Ravens. This change has been a hot topic across the tri-state area. Harbaugh expressed pride in his new role, acknowledging the expectations to restore the franchise’s prestige.
The Harbaugh era began notably for Giants fans with a 28-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night. This win showcased the rugged style anticipated with this new leadership. From the start, the Giants’ defense set a firm tone. The defense forced a three-and-out, energizing the audience at a sold-out MetLife Stadium as Jaxson Dart led the team onto the field.
The Giants executed a 10-play, 83-yard drive, consuming 6:13 of the first-quarter clock. This drive culminated in a touchdown by Cam Skattebo. Harbaugh might not have approved of Skattebo’s backflip during the celebration, but taking a 7-0 lead was what the staff aimed for with their premier offensive lineup.
Throughout the game, New York relied on a robust run game and well-timed creative play-calls. These strategies baffled the Cowboys’ defense, expected to be stronger this season. Though the Cowboys converted eight out of eleven third downs, the Giants’ conversions felt timely and essential for advancing down the field.

Isaiah Likely, who came from Harbaugh’s past team, emerged as a key player. He caught two of Dart’s three touchdown passes, leading the game with 78 yards on eight receptions. Meanwhile, Malik Nabers made a successful return, securing six catches for 69 yards. This was a remarkable comeback after his ACL injury last season.
Though Odell Beckham Jr. did not make a significant impact in terms of statistics, he remains a crucial part of the lineup. The Giants’ strong running game, directed by coordinators Matt Nagy and Greg Roman, had 37 carries totaling 165 rushing yards. This contrasted sharply with the Cowboys’ 69 rushing yards.
Harbaugh’s vision for a tough, physical team reminiscent of the historic Giants appears to be taking shape. Sunday’s performance in East Rutherford reflected this goal. The matchup provided a promising glimpse of what Harbaugh plans to instill in the Giants.
