Graham Platner Faces Allegations Amid Campaign in Maine

Graham Platner resumed his campaign activities on Friday, addressing recent allegations from past relationships, while receiving support from numerous attendees. Despite negative publicity, Platner garnered multiple standing ovations and vocal backing for his wife, Amy Gertner.

The Democratic Senate hopeful praised Maine for providing him resilience during challenging times. Platner mentioned past online indiscretions and noted how Maine’s support helped him through his recovery from PTSD. He acknowledged a detailed article in the New York Times about allegations from former girlfriends, emphasizing his continued support from Maine amidst scrutiny.

Lyndsey Fifield, one of the women, recounted instances of alleged abuse when she dated Platner from 2013 to 2015, claiming he once used physical force to restrain her. Platner refuted these allegations, suggesting they were politically motivated due to Fifield’s ties to conservative campaigns.

Gertner emerged prominently last week following reports from the Wall Street Journal concerning Platner’s explicit messages to women during their marriage. She defended her husband, stressing their strengthened relationship despite difficulties.

“The state of Maine raised me and the state of Maine saved me,” Platner stated, underscoring his gratitude to his supporters. Platner aimed to redirect focus towards incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins, labeling her moderate image as deceptive.

Platner criticized Collins for supporting Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation, citing his record on voting rights and reproductive rights as contentious points. He challenged her qualifications as a senator representing Maine.

Platner’s event resonated with multiple attendees, including Janice Low, who expressed continued support for him. Low opposed the Iranian military actions under President Trump and desired Collins’ replacement due to her alignment with Trump.

State Representative Gary Friedmann praised Platner’s speech, reflecting local values and the capacity for personal growth. Friedmann and others expressed preference for a candidate representing true interests.
