Giannis Antetokounmpo is making headlines following a major trade reported late Monday night. The deal, confirmed by several outlets, sends Antetokounmpo and forward Bobby Portis from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Miami Heat. In return, the Bucks receive Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks, one pick swap, and one second-round pick, according to ESPN.

Prior to the trade announcement, Antetokounmpo expressed his sentiments on social media. At 5:56 p.m. on Monday, he posted: GOD, I trusted you at the beginning, and I will continue to trust you throughout. This appears to indicate that he was aware of the impending move and is prepared for his career’s next chapter.

Antetokounmpo has been a pivotal player for the Bucks, guiding them to their second NBA Finals win in 2021. However, increasing tensions between him and the team have led to his transfer to Miami. The 13-year NBA veteran boasts an impressive record, including two MVP awards, a Defensive Player of the Year award, and seven All-NBA first-team selections. Last season, he averaged 27.6 points per game, following a streak of averaging over 30 points per game for three consecutive seasons.

In Miami, Antetokounmpo might join forces with Heat’s Bam Adebayo and guard Norman Powell, depending on Powell’s free agency decision. Adebayo posted a 20.1 points per game average last season, with a notable 83-point performance in a game against the Bucks on March 11. Powell, now set to become an unrestricted free agent, led the team with an average of 21.7 points per game as Miami finished the season with a 43-39 record, failing to make the playoffs.

The Bucks faced a challenging season, ending with a 32-50 record. Antetokounmpo, playing only 36 games due to limitations, recorded his lowest minutes per game since his rookie season.
