The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced in April its decision to stop funding LIV Golf after the 2026 season. This raised speculation that the breakaway circuit might cease to exist in its current form beyond this year.

However, on Wednesday, LIV CEO Scott O’Neil dispelled these rumors. Speaking ahead of the LIV New York tournament at Trump National Bedminster, O’Neil revealed that an investor has been secured to keep the league operational. Though details about this investor remain undisclosed, O’Neil highlighted a crucial development concerning LIV Golf and its players.

LIV Golf has an agreement with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in the League’s next era, driven by and for the players,” O’Neil stated.

He further mentioned, “Notably, our next chapter will make our players the majority equity holders in LIV Golf, a first for a major global sports league.” The aim is to finalize the transaction by September.

Details about how LIV Golf will operate beyond 2026 and which players will participate in 2027 remain uncertain. The plan includes ten events for the 2027 season, split equally between the United States and other international locations.

This announcement of LIV Golf’s continuance comes amid numerous uncertainties about the LIV Team Championship scheduled for August 27-30. Reports have circulated that the championship might be canceled, as “multiple contractors” informed Flushing It Golf of the cancellation of their travel arrangements and owed payments.

LIV golfer Martin Kaymer expressed doubt about the likelihood of the team championship occurring. He shared his views with Today’s Golfer, suggesting the event was “highly unlikely” to proceed.

Despite challenges, discussions with prospective investors for LIV Golf 2.0 are ongoing. A source informed OutKick on July 29 that positive engagements are taking place to secure funding for the league’s future. Wednesday’s announcement underscores these promising discussions.
