Four police officers in Green Bay, Wisconsin, received injuries on Saturday morning after a suspect drove into a group of people. Around 2:15 a.m., the Green Bay Police Department was called to a disturbance at a food truck. Officers tried to detain several individuals when a vehicle accelerated toward both bystanders and officers. This action led an officer to discharge their firearm.
Following this, the suspect attempted to escape, resulting in a brief police pursuit. The pursuit concluded when officers employed a PIT maneuver, a police tactic used to halt fleeing vehicles, to stop the suspect’s car. The driver was apprehended without any further incident on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The injuries sustained by the four officers were not life-threatening, and they received necessary medical attention. As of now, no injuries have been reported related to the officer’s use of a firearm during the incident.
At a news conference, Green Bay Police Chief Chris Davis mentioned uncertainty about whether the driver’s actions were related to the earlier disturbance at the food truck. Two officers were injured before the driver entered the crowd, during efforts to arrest individuals.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office will collaborate with the Green Bay Police Department to investigate the incident involving the officer’s firearm. This incident highlights the risks involved in police operations, especially those involving vehicular pursuits.
