A former college swimmer from California allegedly attacked a security guard at a Maui resort. The guard, Michael “Mike” Dyer, 63, was found dead hours later. Legend Storer, 20, faces charges of second-degree murder, first-degree burglary with a dangerous instrument, and indecent exposure, according to court records.
The incident began at approximately 1:45 a.m. on August 5, when surveillance footage recorded a naked man approaching Dyer’s office at a condominium resort on Lower Honoapiʻilani Road in Lahaina. According to police, the suspect allegedly assaulted Dyer and fled on foot.

About an hour later, around 3:02 a.m., a report mentioned a nude man wandering in Kahana. Officers found Storer at 3:35 a.m. He had multiple abrasions and was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center. At 5:31 a.m., police were called to the resort where they discovered Dyer unresponsive.
Investigators confirmed the naked individual seen in Kahana matched the person in the resort footage. The Maui Police Department, following a policy, did not publicly name the suspect. Hawaii court records, however, identify Storer as the accused, charged with the three offenses related to the August 5 incident.
Storer, a former swimmer at Concordia University Irvine, competed in swimming and graduated from Maui Preparatory Academy in 2024. He has been charged with second-degree murder, burglary, and indecent exposure. At his first court appearance, prosecutors requested he remain in custody without bail, a request the court approved.
Dyer, working on the night shift as a security guard, was remembered by family and friends in a GoFundMe organized to support his wife. He and his wife Joy had been married for 26 years. The investigation is still ongoing, and Maui police are continuing to look into the case.
Hawaii News Now reported Storer transferred out of Concordia University. Attempts to contact his attorneys for comment have not been successful.
