A former television news anchor from St. Louis, Angelynn “Angie” Mock, has been sentenced to life in prison after admitting to fatally stabbing her mother in Kansas on Halloween. A Sedgwick County District Court judge announced that Mock, 48, will have the possibility of parole after 25 years, as reported by KWCH.
Mock accepted a plea agreement on charges of first-degree murder. The incident occurred on October 31, 2025, when police officers found Anita Avers, aged 80, with multiple stab wounds at her Wichita, Kansas home. Avers lived there with Mock and Mock’s stepfather.
Mock referenced delusions, claiming her mother was the devil and that she needed to kill her to “save herself.”
Mock’s stepfather revealed to KAKE-TV that she had been diagnosed with mental illness, including delusions and depression. Reports suggested she might have had bipolar disorder, later suspected to be schizoaffective disorder. Despite these mental health claims, a judge in July found Mock competent to stand trial.
In August, Mock pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder. She was arrested and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail following the incident.
Before her involvement in the crime, Mock transitioned into software sales, after having worked as a news anchor and reporter. She was employed at Fox 2 KTVI in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015 and served as a morning anchor at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011.
