Former BYU Cougars football player Curtis Brown and his family recently endured a tragic loss. Their two-year-old son, Haze, drowned in a swimming pool at their home in Clovis, California on July 26. This heartbreaking accident was confirmed by police to the New York Post.

“Kim and Curtis recently lost their miracle baby, Haze, in a tragic drowning accident. No words can ease the heartbreak they are facing as they grieve the loss of their precious son,” Chandler Pearson, a family friend, wrote on a GoFundMe page initiated to support the Browns.

The GoFundMe campaign aims to alleviate the financial burden of funeral and other unforeseen expenses. The page has garnered $77,375 towards its $100,000 goal. Pearson emphasized the importance of community support in helping the Browns during this period of mourning.

A family member found Haze unresponsive in the pool and immediately contacted emergency services. Despite attempts to administer CPR, paramedics declared Haze deceased at the hospital.

The Clovis Police Department commented on the incident, stressing the importance of supervising children near water and the necessity of learning CPR. Safety equipment should always be readily available when children are swimming.

Curtis Brown, who played for BYU from 2002 to 2006, had a standout football career. He led the Mountain West Conference with 14 rushing touchdowns and finished his college career with impressive rushing and receiving stats. After graduation, Brown pursued a career in the NFL and briefly joined the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent.

Thus far, BYU has not publicly commented on the incident. Curtis Brown is a father to five children, comprising Trey, and triplets Cruze, Julie, and Kash.
