A tragic incident unfolded in Florida when a man was shot dead after attempting to intervene in a roadside altercation. The event took place following a car accident involving a man and a woman. Daryl Alexander Hill, 56, became the victim, allegedly at the hands of Raul Lionel Vazquez, 26. Vazquez is now facing charges of second-degree murder.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident on social media, detailing the events that led to Hill’s death. On the morning of the incident, sheriff’s deputies responded to a scene in Apopka, a town northwest of Orlando, at 8:27 a.m. There, they discovered Hill lying face down with a gunshot wound. Hill was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:20 a.m.

“A man with a contagious personality and a great sense of humor,” friends described Hill, commemorating his life through a GoFundMe organized by a friend of his wife.

According to an arrest affidavit, Vazquez and Kaidy Honaker were seen fighting inside a white Chevy Silverado before colliding with a black Lexus. Witnesses observed the argument escalating onto the sidewalk. Hill, crossing paths on his bicycle, attempted to intervene. This led to a physical confrontation between him and Vazquez, which moved into nearby bushes.

During the scuffle, Honaker joined in, allegedly trying to separate the two. As Hill attempted to flee, he cried for help with hands raised. Vazquez retrieved a shotgun from his vehicle and fired, striking Hill.

Vazquez offered multiple explanations to investigators, one claiming Hill was overpowering him. His previous record includes being out on bond for an earlier aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon. In that case, Vazquez and another individual were accused of threatening someone with a gun. He had been released on a $5,000 surety bond.

Additional charges against Vazquez include a March 2025 arrest for domestic violence, where he allegedly strangled someone. He pleaded not guilty in both previous cases.

The Apopka Police Department refrained from commenting on Vazquez receiving bond, as that choice rested with the state attorney. The State Attorney’s Office has yet to respond to inquiries regarding this decision.
