Florida Man Arrested for Kidnapping and Hiding Teen in Dryer

A Florida man faces charges after authorities discovered a teenage girl hidden in a clothes dryer in his Key Largo home. Christopher Michael Veit, aged 53, is accused of kidnapping, false imprisonment, and unlawful sexual activity with a minor, as reported by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident came to light when the teenage girl managed to call 911, reporting that she was being held against her will. Deputies found her concealed in a dryer upon arriving at the residence on Miramar Drive around 11:45 a.m. on a Sunday.

According to investigators, Veit allegedly restrained the girl before placing her inside the appliance. Further, he is said to have taken her cellphone when she expressed a desire to leave his home.

Thankfully, the victim did not suffer life-threatening injuries, according to the Sheriff’s Office. After her discovery, she was transported to a local hospital for a checkup, then released to a family member’s care.

While the teenager is not a resident of Key Largo, her specific connection to Veit is still unclear. Investigators have identified evidence suggesting an ongoing sexual relationship between Veit and the girl.

In connection with the case, authorities also found counterfeit currency on the premises, prompting a notification to the U.S. Secret Service. The case remains under investigation, with the possibility of additional charges being filed.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office detectives are actively working on the case in collaboration with the Florida Department of Children and Families, who have also been informed of the situation.
