Felix Rosenqvist triumphed in the 110th Indianapolis 500 in an exhilarating race. He overtook David Malukas, denying the American his first IndyCar victory with a remarkable maneuver in the final stretch. Rosenqvist secured the win by a mere 0.023 seconds, marking the closest finish in the race’s history.
Scott McLaughlin claimed third place, while Pato O’Ward finished fourth. O’Ward has consistently performed well, securing second, third, and fourth places in consecutive Indy 500 races. Late in the race, Brazilian Caio Collet crashed, which led to a temporary halt. His vehicle caught fire after colliding with the wall, but Collet exited safely.
INDY 500 fans eagerly awaited Caitlin Clark’s appearance, bringing extra excitement to the race.
Due to the red flag, drivers were limited to rehydrating and changing car batteries, but they couldn’t refuel or replace tires. Rosenqvist made a decisive move past O’Ward to take the lead, despite O’Ward’s struggles with a less competitive vehicle. He described his situation as being a “sitting duck” post-race.
With less than 10 laps remaining, the competition intensified. When the green flag was waved again with four laps remaining, Marcus Armstrong surged to the front. Malukas followed closely, pushing Rosenqvist and O’Ward back to third and fourth positions.
Another caution flag slowed the race pace, culminating in a single lap finale marked by green and white flags. Malukas led as Rosenqvist, Armstrong, and McLaughlin pursued aggressively. Despite Malukas sensing victory, Rosenqvist executed a strategic move alongside him and crossed the finish line first.
Malukas, emotional after the race, acknowledged giving his all and narrowly missing the top spot.
Rosenqvist expressed disbelief over the finish, praised the audience for enduring challenging weather, and shared his desire for his family to witness the win. This victory marks the second Indy 500 win for Meyer Shank Racing, previously achieved by vehicle owner Hélio Castroneves.
