Fear of God Essentials: A Tween and Teen Fashion Trend

Fear of God Essentials hoodies are gaining popularity as status symbols among tweens and teens. The trend leaves many parents surprised by the costs involved. Kinna Thomas, a mother of two, expressed her thoughts about the price tag for clothing items during an interview with Business Insider. ‘It felt a little bit expensive for, at the time, 11- and 12-year-olds,’ she said. The clothing line, created by Jerry Lorenzo, debuted in 2011, with the Essentials line launching in 2018. Prices range from $33 for T-shirts to $130-$200 for some hoodies.

“It looks clean without doing too much,” Julian, a teenager, shared about Essentials hoodies. “It’s simple, comfortable, and still looks good,” added Timmy, his brother.

High school environments reflect this growing trend, with students seen sporting these fashionable items. In an interview with the fashion site Ssense, Jerry Lorenzo clarified the brand’s intended identity. ‘If someone asks me how Christianity fits into it, it just fits because it’s a part of who I am,’ he noted. He emphasized the apparel is not centered on religious themes, although his personal values influence his success.

Thomas relayed that in 2022 her sons, 15-year-old Timmy and 16-year-old Julian, wished for items from the line as Christmas gifts. Despite initial surprise, she acquiesced. ‘I was just like, “Wow, what are we doing,”‘ Thomas said. Business Insider reported that the clothing choices have since become a staple for her teenage sons.

Essentials’ appeal lies partly in its aesthetic. Julian commented on its popularity at school, appreciating the clean and uncomplicated style. Parents find comfort knowing their children can express individuality while adhering to school norms. Thomas, whose children attend a private Christian school, remarks on the brand’s acceptability. ‘They’re allowed to wear Fear of God Essentials,’ she stated. Other brands may not have the same approval.

Amy Nachon, another parent, expressed comfort with the brand’s image. ‘If my son knows what he wants to wear and has an idea of his style and his look, I’ll support him in that,’ she said. Parents find value in their children’s ability to express themselves through fashion, particularly during challenging school years.

Efforts to reach Fear of God Essentials for comment were unsuccessful. Rachel del Guidice of Fox News Digital provided this report.
