An armed suspect fatally shot a 63-year-old man on Monday night in the Uptown neighborhood, resulting in a police shooting after the suspect aimed a weapon at officers during a chase, according to Chicago police.

At around 8:30 p.m., officers patrolling the area responded to reports of gunfire. Investigations revealed the victim had argued with a known individual. This confrontation escalated when the suspect drew a weapon and shot the victim multiple times. The victim was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center but was declared deceased.

The gunman escaped northward on the 4800 block of Clark Street, prompting a foot pursuit. As police caught up with him on Argyle Street, the suspect pointed his weapon at the officers. Law enforcement officials discharged their weapons, hitting the suspect, who subsequently received medical assistance on the scene.

The suspect was then taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was reported in critical condition. A firearm was found at the scene. Three officers were transported to a local hospital for observation following the incident.

The Chicago police Investigative Response Team alongside the Civilian Office of Police Accountability were informed of the incident. The officers involved have been assigned routine administrative duties for a minimum of 30 days.
