A former national security official from the Reagan administration has expressed concerns about a growing alliance between radical Islamists and far-left socialists. These unlikely partners seem to unite over a shared anti-American agenda.
Frank Gaffney shared his views with Fox News Digital about the influence of the Democratic Socialists of America and potential threats to U.S. national security. He described the alliance as a convergence of totalitarianism. According to Gaffney, although the groups have different end goals, they are willing to unite for the immediate objective of undermining the United States.
One can argue that the Sharia supremacists are pursuing communism with a God, or at least a patina, a veneer of religiosity to it,” Gaffney explained.
Gaffney’s concerns focus on what he sees as a threat to the American constitutional system. This perception is fueled by recent activities and protests, including a rally in New York City organized by the Democratic Socialists in solidarity with Palestinians.
Gaffney argues that the alliance seeks the destruction of the U.S., aiming its efforts through the Democratic Party. He served as assistant secretary of defense under President Reagan and founded the Center for Security Policy think tank in Washington, D.C. He now presides over the Institute for the American Future.
The “red-green alliance” symbolizes political cooperation between far-left movements, associated with red, and Islamist movements, associated with green. Gaffney emphasizes that their differences are secondary to the joint goal of challenging American constitutional values.
A recent Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing discussed the topic, titled “Hidden in Plain Sight: Confronting the Muslim Brotherhood Network in America.” In the hearing, Ted Cruz, R-Texas, questioned whether the Muslim Brotherhood collaborates with groups such as the Democratic Socialists of America, thereby forming the “Red-Green Alliance.”
Kyle Shideler, a senior analyst at the Center for Security Policy, agreed with Cruz’s characterization, noting that the alliance aims to undermine American constitutional principles.
Shideler’s agreement extends to the belief that the threat from this alliance cannot be ignored due to political convenience. In summary, both movement share a revolutionary objective.
This threat cannot be ignored because it is politically inconvenient,” Cruz posted.
Gaffney further aligns with this sentiment in his discussions with Fox News Digital, asserting that these movements are committed to their shared goal.
There’s also examination from some Muslim critics of radical Islamism. Dalia Ziada, a Muslim scholar, criticized Hamas’ recent attacks on Israel and expressed concern about the alliance’s impact on the U.S. and Western society.
For five or seven years now, we have been seeing some kind of a ‘sinful marriage’ between the radical left and radical Islamism,” she explained.
An investigation by Fox News Digital revealed approximately 425 organizations tied to this transnational protest network, collectively generating about $1 billion annually.
