Residents of Georgia’s 13th Congressional District have chosen Everton Blair to complete the term of the late Rep. David Scott. This decision follows Scott’s passing in April. According to a projection by The Associated Press, Blair emerged victorious over Marcye Scott, David Scott’s daughter, in the special election held on Tuesday.
Blair, who previously served as the chair of the Gwinnett County School Board, secured second place behind Marcye Scott in the nonpartisan special election on July 28. Both candidates proceeded to a runoff, where Blair claimed victory. Blair will serve the remaining months of David Scott’s final term, concluding in January. This is because he placed third in the May 19 Democratic primary for the upcoming full two-year term.
The Associated Press has projected that Everton Blair Jr. will complete the late Rep. David Scott’s term. Blair’s campaign provided this information. In November, the choice will be between Democratic state Rep. Jasmine Clark and Republican Jonathan Chavez for the full term starting in January. The 13th District often leans heavily Democratic. In 2024, Scott was re-elected with around 72% of the vote. Additionally, then-Vice President Kamala Harris received about 71% of the vote in the district.
Seventy days remain until the 2026 midterm elections. The Associated Press also contributed to this report.
