Everton Blair Wins Runoff in Georgia’s 13th District

Fox News recently covered a special election in Georgia’s 13th Congressional District. This election was held to fill the term left by the late Rep. David Scott, D-Ga., who passed away earlier this year at age 80.

Marcye Scott, the daughter of David Scott, entered the special election runoff after leading the first round with about 46% of the vote. Despite her initial lead, she was defeated by Everton Blair, a former teacher and Gwinnett County school board chairman.

Blair’s victory means he will serve the remainder of David Scott’s term. His time in Congress will be short-lived, ending in early January when the winner of November’s general election takes office.

Although Blair also competed in a primary seeking a full term, he lost to Democratic Georgia state representative Jasmine Clark. Clark will face Republican Jonathan Chavez in November, with the victor beginning the official term in January 2027.

The late Rep. David Scott had a long tenure representing Georgia’s 13th District, carrying it decisively in the 2024 elections. He achieved around 72% of the vote, mirroring then-Vice President Kamala Harris’s Democratic support in the presidential race against Donald Trump.

After David Scott’s passing in April 2023, the district lost its voting representation. However, his congressional offices remained operational under the House clerk’s supervision to assist constituents. Everton Blair’s win restores Democratic representation in the district, contributing a vote to the closely divided House for the final months of the 119th Congress.

Blair has an accomplished background, with graduate degrees from Stanford and Harvard. He worked with the Obama administration’s White House Initiative on Educational Excellence and made history in 2018 as the first Black and youngest member elected to his county’s school board.
