Enes Kanter Freedom Removed from WNBA Game After Altercation

Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom claimed that Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud made a vulgar remark towards him, leading to his removal from a Sunday game against the Indiana Fever. Freedom, attending the game at Wintrust Arena, said the confrontation occurred after celebrating a 3-pointer by Sophie Cunningham, a Fever player.

Freedom stated, “Sophie Cunningham shot a three, and I put my hands up to celebrate. Later, Natasha started screaming, saying, ‘She’s not gonna sleep with you.'” He countered, explaining he was there to support women.

Security had to intervene as Cloud approached Freedom, shouting profanities. Freedom expressed shock, noting the presence of young fans. He criticized Cloud’s language, suggesting it was inappropriate for a role model.

The incident came after Cloud scored and celebrated with teammates. Freedom, wearing a shirt reading “WOMAN noun. adult human female,” believes this sparked Cloud’s reaction.

OutKick contacted Cloud’s representatives for comments, but no statement was provided. In a post-game message, Cloud expressed support for the trans community.

“To every trans kid/person, you are a part of my community. You’re loved and seen,” Cloud wrote.

Sky coach Tyler Marsh defended Cloud, praising her protective nature. Freedom insists the altercation wasn’t related to the trans issue or his transgender athlete eligibility campaign.

Without public clarification, the WNBA’s eligibility for transgender athletes remains ambiguous, sparking controversy. Freedom announced plans to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft, challenging the league’s stance.

Freedom’s removal from the arena was unexplained. He highlighted his intent to support women, questioning security’s actions. The Sky had prior notice of his attendance, indicating no initial issue.

Outside the game, Freedom supported Cunningham, facing protests for her stance on transgender athletes in female sports. Despite controversies, Freedom remains determined to pursue a WNBA career.

Freedom criticized media portrayals of his campaign, reaffirming respect for all communities. He expressed enthusiasm for competing against Cloud in the future, clarifying no animosity towards her.

Freedom’s stance arises from a viral clip of Gabby Williams supporting trans players. He declared for the draft intending to provoke WNBA rule clarification.

Freedom stressed his willingness to engage in dialogue, inviting WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert for discussion. He rejected accusations of political motivations, emphasizing his advocacy for women.

Despite acknowledging players’ acceptance, Freedom questioned the league’s response. He expressed readiness to play vigorously and stated his physical advantage.

Highlighting financial disparities, Freedom predicted increased interest from male players drawn to WNBA salaries. He noted G League players considering identification as women for financial benefits.

Amid support, Freedom reports receiving threats following his draft announcement. He reiterated his campaign’s focus on defending women, devoid of political bias.

Freedom encouraged open communication with the league, seeking constructive engagement over confrontations. His campaign reflects broader debates on gender and sports.
