Authorities reported that several individuals were injured following an emergency landing of a Kenmore Air floatplane off the Washington coast. The incident occurred Thursday evening when the aircraft, a de Havilland DHC-3 Otter, made an emergency landing at North Beach Shallow Bay, Sucia Island, and subsequently caught fire.

The U.S. Coast Guard received notification of the emergency at approximately 5:25 p.m. local time. All 10 passengers and the pilot were successfully accounted for, though several injuries have been reported. The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office described these injuries as ranging from head trauma to broken bones and lacerations.

“We are grateful that everyone aboard has been accounted for, and our immediate focus is ensuring our passengers and pilot receive the care and support they need,” said Kenmore Air CEO David Gudgel.

Kenmore Air confirmed that four passengers were transported to local hospitals. One of these individuals is in critical condition, but no fatalities have been reported. The airline emphasized its collaboration with investigators to provide more updates as information becomes available.

The flight had departed from Seattle’s Lake Union, heading towards Roche Harbor Marina on San Juan Island, a route that is regularly flown by Kenmore Air. A spokesperson mentioned that for locals, using a seaplane for such journeys is common.

A significant response followed the incident. Multiple agencies, including the U.S. Navy, the Coast Guard, and local emergency services, dispatched boats and personnel. Additionally, three air ambulance helicopters were involved in transporting the injured.

Investigations into the cause of the emergency landing are ongoing. Kenmore Air expressed appreciation for the efforts of the U.S. Coast Guard and local responders involved in the operation.
