Eighteen and Facing Lymphoma: Julika Feix’s Journey

The start of 2026 brimmed with excitement for Julika Feix, who had just turned 18. Graduation was on the horizon, and she anticipated a summer full of memories with friends. She focused on completing her senior year, maintaining her routines despite noticing some worrying symptoms.

Early Signs Overlooked

In early 2026, bruises appeared on her legs. As an avid tennis player, she attributed them to accidental hits from her racket. However, the situation worsened with relentless itchy skin, interrupting her sleep. She later experienced night sweats, a lingering cough, shortness of breath, and fatigue. Julika’s hope that symptoms would fade still kept her looking forward to celebrating her final school days, though exhaustion and a lack of energy cast a shadow over these plans.

Diagnosing the Problem

Spring brought a visit to the doctor for a persistent three-month cough. Initially suspected as seasonal asthma, an inhaler proved ineffective. A second visit led to a chest X-ray after sharing new symptoms of bruising and itchy skin. The call to return immediately after the X-ray was alarming.

A CT scan revealed a mass atop her lung and a swollen lymph node on her neck. Blood tests confirmed the surprising diagnosis on April 23, 2026: Hodgkin’s lymphoma stage 2.

The Unexpected Diagnosis

Learning of her serious condition was terrifying for Julika. She, who had always been healthy, found it challenging to process this new reality. Despite hopes for a less severe explanation, she now faced a significant health battle.

Undergoing Treatment

Julika’s treatment includes Nivolumab AVD chemotherapy, administered every two weeks, with sessions lasting four to six hours. Completing five of twelve treatments, she finds the first days post-chemotherapy the hardest, marked by fatigue and nausea. Rest becomes essential.

The Impact of Cancer and Chemotherapy

The physical toll encompasses constant fatigue, nausea, infections, and hair loss, complicating daily life. Emotionally, transitioning from a healthy teen to one battling cancer proves intensely challenging. Time once meant for summer memories now passes at the cancer center. Friends enjoying their summer without her can be painful but has underscored the value of positivity and resilience.

Learning and Advocating

Julika urges others to listen to their bodies. Unseen illnesses can have subtle signs; ignoring them might delay needed care. She emphasizes the significance of genuine, supportive friendships and staying present in times of adversity.

After her diagnosis, Julika began sharing her journey on TikTok (@julika.fx). She hopes this outreach encourages awareness, and understanding, and comforts others facing similar battles.
