On Monday, vacationers at a Russian Black Sea resort faced chaos when a drone struck, leading to the deaths of seven people, including four children, and injuring numerous others. The incident occurred in Arkhipo-Osipovka, near Gelendzhik, and was caught on video, showing a beach crowded with visitors.

The Russian Mission in Geneva claimed the attack was conducted by a drone launched from Ukraine, targeting civilians. The mission labeled the event a “bloody attack” by Kyiv.

The attack targeted civilian infrastructure. Emergency and special services are working at the crash site.

These were the words of regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev, who declared the event as a deliberate attack on civilians unconnected to military targets. He condemned it as a “cynical and inhumane terrorist attack against children.”

Andriy Kovalenko, an officer with Ukraine’s Defense Forces, countered Russia’s claims. He stated that the injuries and fatalities resulted from Russian air defenses intercepting a drone, leading to debris falling onto the beach.

“Russian air defense shot down a drone over people lying on the beach,” Kovalenko mentioned on Telegram. Video evidence suggested the drone veered before it hit, accompanied by sounds resembling gunfire, followed by an explosion that panicked beachgoers.

Initial Russian reports indicated that casualties resulted from debris falling after the interception. Kovalenko also noted Ukraine’s strategic targeting of Russian military-industrial sites to reduce the enemy’s war capability.

He blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin for misleading citizens by minimizing warnings and stationing air defenses in populated zones. Kovalenko accused Putin of causing civilian deaths by initiating the conflict and falsely presenting safety assurances.

“Putin deliberately killed these people. Because if he had not started the war and struck Ukraine, they would be alive,” Kovalenko said, asserting that Russian air defense strategies contributed to the tragedy.
