Driver Goes Airborne in High-Speed Wisconsin Chase

Video footage from a high-speed chase in Wisconsin shows a driver going airborne, leaping his car over another vehicle. This dramatic scene resembles an action movie stunt.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office released the video from the arrest that occurred on Saturday morning, May 9. The fleeing driver’s vehicle not only vaulted over another car, it crossed the entire road and landed in a field.

According to FOX 6, the Wisconsin State Patrol initially stopped the car due to an active felony warrant. As additional law enforcement arrived, the driver took off, initiating a high-speed pursuit.

The chase ended when the driver lost control of his vehicle, veered into a ditch, and then sped up an embankment. At this moment, the car soared over another and crashed into the opposite field. Despite the crash, the driver, Dewayne Stokes, 44, exited the vehicle and resisted arrest, leading officers to use a Taser on him before taking him into custody.

The pursuit stretched over four and a half miles, briefly through the air. Stokes sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.

Stokes now faces seven charges, including first-degree reckless endangering safety and two counts of eluding an officer. His cash bond is set at $25,000, with his next court appearance scheduled for June 24.

At the time of the chase, Stokes was out on bond for operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent. He had a warrant for his arrest related to a missed court appearance, which unknowingly led to the airborne escape attempt.
