Disneyland Fans Call for PeopleMover Revival Amid Tomorrowland Overhaul

Disneyland has announced plans to overhaul Tomorrowland, sparking renewed interest among fans in the potential return of the PeopleMover, a beloved ride that closed over 30 years ago. Thomas Mazloum, chairman of Disney Experiences, revealed the Tomorrowland plans at the D23 fan convention on August 15.

Mazloum shared few details, instead highlighting Disneyland’s upcoming 75th anniversary in 2030 and the future of the park. “As we approach Disneyland’s 75th anniversary, with an eye toward the horizon and the park’s centennial, I think it’s time to renew that promise once again in a way that deeply honors the original and imagines the future with optimism,” said Mazloum, according to SFGATE and other media outlets. “And that starts with Tomorrowland.”

Fans have been vocal about their desire to see the PeopleMover make a comeback. The ride, which operated from 1967 to 1995, offered guests an elevated tour above Tomorrowland and transported over 50 million visitors during its 28-year run, as noted by D23, Disney’s official fan organization.

In online forums like Reddit, fans have championed the PeopleMover’s return. “Just add the PeopleMover and people will be happy,” wrote one commenter. Others echoed similar sentiments, urging Disneyland to consider bringing the ride back.

Despite the enthusiasm, not everyone believes the Tomorrowland overhaul will lead to the PeopleMover’s revival. Some skeptics argue that the announcement lacks details and caution that changes might take years to materialize. “I wouldn’t get my hopes up,” remarked one commenter. “This could easily be 5-10 years out.” Another pointed out logistical issues, stating, “They’d have to make a new track; the current one is unfit for use.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to Disneyland for further comments on the matter. Meanwhile, Disneyland continues to make news for various other developments. In spring, it enforced restrictions on loose items and handheld filming on certain high-motion rides.

Disneyland achieved a significant milestone by welcoming its one billionth guest in July, with Disneyland Resort President Jill Estorino remarking this as “a remarkable milestone for Disneyland Resort and a testament to the generations of guests who have made this special place part of their lives,” reported by Fox Business.

Additionally, a citywide water pressure outage in Anaheim in late July disrupted operations in the park, resulting in the temporary closure of restrooms and restaurants.
