Discovery in Tucson Sparks Prehistoric Investigation

Archaeological experts emphasize the importance of caution in investigations by amateur sleuths following a recent discovery.

Earlier this month, Alec Wysopal, a livestreamer dedicated to finding Nancy Guthrie, reported an intriguing find near Tucson, Arizona. Ms. Guthrie, the mother of Savannah Guthrie, host of the ‘Today’ show, went missing in February, leading to widespread concern.

While navigating the Tucson trails and filming with his cellphone, Wysopal noticed something unusual on a dry river bank, not far from Ms. Guthrie’s residence. His discovery prompted him to alert thousands of viewers on his YouTube channel, ‘Oh, what is that?’ he questioned, referring to what appeared to be a bone.

The discovery quickly gained traction on social media, with true crime enthusiasts speculating about a breakthrough in the search for the missing 84-year-old. However, local authorities soon arrived and provided clarification. According to a spokesperson from Tucson police, ‘This will be a prehistoric anthropological investigation. This is not a criminal investigation.’

The incident highlights the need for expertise and caution in handling potential archaeological finds. Amateur investigators often stir public interest, but professional expertise is crucial for accurate assessment.
