Democrats Divided Over Hasan Piker’s Comments on U.S. Jews

Representative Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., recently addressed the controversy surrounding left-wing Twitch streamer Hasan Piker and his comments about American Jews and Israel. Piker’s remarks have led to a division among Democrats, with many condemning what they see as antisemitic rhetoric. Gottheimer warned that such rhetoric could incite violence.

Hasan Piker criticized American Jews’ support for Israel, which drew backlash from several Democratic lawmakers. He responded to this criticism by blaming the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) for coordinating the attacks against him. On the social media platform X, Piker wrote, “AIPAC boss call was made. They are unanimous in their hatred of me, and I welcome their hatred.” He stated that those who defend Israel’s actions hold views that mean nothing to him.

Piker later suggested calculating the amount of money that Democratic candidates received from AIPAC to divert attention from criticism of his statements.

Brian Romick, President and CEO of Democratic Majority for Israel, dismissed Piker’s claims as “baseless conspiracy theory.” He emphasized that Piker’s comments were anticipated due to his history of conspiracy theories and hateful rhetoric. Romick stated that Democratic officials condemning Piker’s remarks is a positive step, as politicians should distance themselves from him.

Piker, during one of his streams, told viewers, “If Jews in America keep putting this idea out there that they are singularly invested in Israel, eventually someone is going to come around and take action.” This statement led to several Democrats, including Senators Cory Booker, D-N.J., Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., and others, publicly admonishing Piker’s remarks.

Senator Jacky Rosen described Piker’s comments as a “new low,” stating that blaming Jewish Americans for violence was unwarranted. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries also condemned Piker, stating there is “zero justification for threats against the safety of our Jewish brothers and sisters.” Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin argued that while criticism of Israel’s policies might be justified, blaming American Jews for violence against them is dangerous and antisemitic.

Piker’s influence within Democratic politics remains a contentious subject. Some candidates, like Abdul El-Sayed, have associated with him. However, El-Sayed later distanced himself from Piker after his remarks about Jewish Americans received widespread criticism. El-Sayed emphasized his commitment to safety for all communities, denouncing antisemitism.

Piker remains unrepentant, portraying the Democratic criticisms as driven by an AIPAC campaign against him. Fox News Digital sought AIPAC’s response to Piker’s accusations but did not receive an immediate reply.
