Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville recently discussed a shift he has observed in support for former President Donald Trump. During a podcast episode of “Politics War Room” with co-host Al Hunt, Carville remarked on a trend of diminishing public endorsements for Trump, likening remaining supporters to “world-class” buffoons.

One listener from rural Texas noted a decrease in displays of Trump flags and signs, questioning if it might signal lower enthusiasm and turnout for upcoming elections. Carville agreed, drawing parallels from his experiences in south Mississippi, recalling previous interactions where locals expressed their support for Trump. He noted this as less frequent now.

Carville emphasized the significance of anecdotes when they collectively suggest a pattern. He believes there might be a cultural shift in support for Trump, although noting rural Texas may not turn Democrat overnight, but may not show the same level of support as before.

Earlier in the podcast, Carville criticized Trump’s inner circle, stating his frustration not with those who voted for Trump in 2024 but with ongoing support moving forward. Carville questioned those still backing Trump, arguing that Trump failed to fulfill his stated objectives, focusing instead on personal gains.

According to Carville, despite the high approval ratings among a segment of Americans, ongoing support for Trump is unwarranted given his record. He feels those continuing support need to reassess their stance.

A White House spokesperson responded to Carville’s assertions, derisively attributing his views to “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” Despite Carville’s strong opposition to Trump supporters, his comments underscore the evolving political landscape.
