Democratic Party Faces Internal Conflict Over Hasan Piker’s Rhetoric

Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., addressed concerns about far-left streamer Hasan Piker during an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press. Host Kristen Welker asked Raskin to comment on Democratic divisions related to Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed’s ties with Piker, who recently made controversial remarks about Hamas.

Welker presented a clip of Piker stating he would favor Hamas over Israel in voting choices, questioning if the streamer fits within the Democratic Party. Raskin responded by expressing doubt about Piker’s affiliation and condemning the scrutiny as an irrelevant distraction. He emphasized that nobody supports Hamas, noting its violent attack on Israel on October 7.

“Obviously, nobody supports Hamas, a terrorist organization which brutally attacked Israel on October 7th,” Raskin said.

Natalie Baldassarre, RNC’s national press secretary, commented on Piker’s influence within Democratic politics, attributing it to socialist support. Baldassarre warned of potential negative consequences for Democrats as they approach November elections, suggesting socialist ideologies threaten American safety, freedom, and economic stability.

El-Sayed faced questions over his association with Piker during his Michigan campaign, despite some Democrats distancing themselves from the streamer. Piker’s endorsements and participation in campaign events have continued to spark controversy. A recent clip from Pod Save America reaffirmed Piker’s stance favoring Hamas over Israel, labeling himself as a ‘harm reduction voter.’

Piker also drew criticism for remarks about American Jews. Fox News Digital reported his warning that continued affiliation with Israel might provoke action against them. Democrats face renewed scrutiny over Piker’s influence amid ongoing questions about his political stance.

El-Sayed clarified that Piker does not represent his campaign, stating that only official spokespeople speak on behalf of his efforts. Despite calls to disavow Piker, El-Sayed expressed his goal to engage the streamer’s large audience in the electoral process.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., dismissed the focus on Piker as “absolutely ludicrous,” while Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., supported engaging with Piker’s audience despite differing views. The Democratic Party continues to face internal debate over its association with Piker.
