The San Francisco 49ers have brought back a familiar face as their receiving corps faces early setbacks in training camp. The concerns over Ricky Pearsall’s knee injury prompted the team to take action.

Former All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel has agreed to rejoin the 49ers on a one-year contract potentially worth up to $7 million, according to reports from ESPN.

Deebo Samuel’s NFL Journey

Deebo Samuel’s career in the NFL began with the 49ers who selected him in the second round of the 2019 draft. During his initial six-year stint with the team, Samuel proved instrumental in helping the 49ers reach the Super Bowl twice. In 2021, he received All-Pro recognition after achieving 1,770 scrimmage yards and 14 touchdowns.

In 2025, Samuel was traded to the Washington Commanders in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick. During his time with the Commanders, he recorded 72 catches, 727 yards, and scored five touchdowns last season.

Rejoining the 49ers

Following his release into free agency in March, Samuel has now returned to the Niners to shore up the receiving corps amid Pearsall’s absence.
