Dallas Cowboys Players Face Fines for Penalties in Season Opener Against Giants

Three players from the Dallas Cowboys were fined by the NFL following the team’s loss to the New York Giants in their season opener. Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku, and running back Javonte Williams incurred fines totaling $33,409, as reported in the NFL’s weekly accountability report.

Overshown was fined $9,527 for delivering a late hit on Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart with 9:38 remaining in the first quarter. This unnecessary roughness penalty granted New York 15 yards during a drive that led to a touchdown.

Ezeiruaku faced an $11,941 fine for grabbing a Giants player’s facemask with 2:10 left in the fourth quarter. This penalty allowed New York to drain the clock and secure its 28-20 victory.

Williams also received an $11,941 fine for taunting Giants safety Tyler Nubin after scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter. By holding the ball toward Nubin, Williams incurred a 15-yard unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty, which was enforced on the extra-point attempt. The Dallas kicker Brandon Aubrey then missed a 48-yard kick, keeping Dallas eight points behind.

Williams expressed regret, stating, “I don’t know why I did it. It’s just out of character. You don’t got to worry about that no more,” as reported by Jane Slater from the NFL Network. He acknowledged the impact of his actions, admitting, “The damage is already done. It’s my fault. I’m better than that. I’m a pro.”

In the game, Dallas accrued nine penalties, while the Giants received 11 penalties, resulting in a total of 20 penalties between the NFC East rivals.
