The D.C. Council decided unanimously on Tuesday to defer difficult decisions to the next year. The council rejected outgoing Mayor Muriel E. Bowser’s proposal to cut over $400 million from the budget.
Instead, they opted to use $150 million from the emergency “rainy day” fund to manage ongoing operating expenses. This decision highlights the council’s preference to maintain current services over making immediate financial cuts.
The meeting included key council members such as Janeese Lewis George, Brooke Pinto, and Robert White Jr., who discussed the implications of the budget choices during a hearing earlier this month.
