In a recent episode of ‘Don’t @ Me’, Dan Dakich criticized Colin Kaepernick for comparing the NFL draft and combine to slavery. Dakich described this comparison as illogical, pointing out the voluntary nature and high earnings in professional sports.
Ryan Clark also faced criticism for supporting Kaepernick’s claim during a podcast interview. Clark asked Kaepernick when he realized the NFL process resembled slavery, which some viewed as leading Kaepernick to affirm the disputed analogy.
“You get to the point, where it’s like, ‘Strip down to your drawers,’” Kaepernick said, indicating how the draft felt like a market.
Kaepernick made this comparison first in a 2021 Netflix series and reiterated his stance in the recent interview. Critics warn that equating forced labor with a multi-million-dollar career demeans historical oppression. Dakich emphasized Kaepernick’s actions, like training for a return to the NFL, as contradictory to labeling the league oppressive.
Clark’s involvement drew additional scrutiny as he did not question Kaepernick’s comparison during the interview. Instead, Clark’s nodding suggested agreement, though he has not publicly clarified his stance. Efforts to contact him for clarification have gone unanswered.
OutKick columnist Bobby Burack noted Clark’s apparent reluctance to challenge the controversial analogy and highlighted his NFL experience that contradicts Kaepernick’s depiction of the draft as exploitative.
The conversation has stirred controversy, with many arguing that Kaepernick and Clark, both accomplished professionals, undermine their credibility by portraying themselves as victims within American society.
