A crewmember from the Regal Princess cruise ship has died after going overboard near Cancún, according to a statement from Princess Cruises on Monday. The ship had departed from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Saturday.

The identity of the crewmember has not been released. The company expressed sympathy, stating, “Our heartfelt condolences go out to the crew’s family and friends during this difficult time. Grief support services are being offered to guests and crew members affected by this event.”

The cruise line expressed gratitude to local authorities and the crew of the Carnival Jubilee for assisting in the search-and-rescue efforts.

The Regal Princess has resumed its journey, departing the Cancún area with its next planned stop in Belize on Tuesday. The seven-day cruise is on schedule to return to Fort Lauderdale on Saturday.
