Cleveland Guardians left fielder Cooper Ingle made an error on Tuesday night during a game against the Texas Rangers, resulting in an unfortunate moment for the young player. The game was tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Rangers had a runner on second base with only one out remaining.
As Texas batter Alejandro Osuna hit a ball to left field, Ingle made a standard catch for what became the inning’s second out. However, Ingle mistakenly thought it was the final out and threw the ball into the stands. Due to this lapse in judgment, Rangers runner Ezequiel Duran advanced to home plate, granting Texas the lead.
The Rangers eventually won the game 4-2. Ingle’s performance at the plate was less than favorable, as he ended the game with no hits in four at-bats and three strikeouts.
Ingle, who debuted only recently on Friday against the Seattle Mariners, entered the 2026 MLB season ranked No. 99 among MLB’s top 100 prospects and No. 65 on Baseball Prospectus’ top prospects list. He ranks as the third-highest prospect within the Guardians’ organization.
After the game, Ingle took responsibility for his error, expressing his commitment to avoiding similar mistakes in the future. He described the incident as “a pretty embarrassing feeling” when speaking to reporters through MLB.com.
Both the Cleveland Guardians and Texas Rangers hold a 44-42 record following Tuesday’s game.
