Trump’s Comments Resurface

Amid ongoing social media discussions, former President Donald Trump’s past remarks about coaching a women’s basketball team gained renewed attention. In a 2022 speech at the America First Policy Institute, Trump suggested that he would excel as a women’s basketball coach by recruiting LeBron James, creating a team that would be unbeatable.

Trump’s comments resurfaced as the Indiana Fever prepared for their game against the New York Liberty, following Cunningham’s remarks.

Support for Cunningham

Cunningham has received backing from women’s sports advocates, who have held rallies outside arenas. Riley Gaines and Jen Sey, founder of XX-XY Athletics, have shown support by attending games and events.

In Minneapolis, ahead of the Fever’s loss to the Minnesota Lynx, supporters of Cunningham faced opposition from activists, some of whom attempted to disrupt their rally.

Despite the controversy, Cunningham stands by her statements, asserting, “I said what I said. I think it’s kind of common sense.” She emphasizes the importance of protecting girls involved in sports.
