Controversy Over Abdul El-Sayed’s 9/11 Message and Hasan Piker Links

Abdul El-Sayed’s Social Media Backlash

Abdul El-Sayed, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate in Michigan, faced backlash on social media after his 9/11 message. He posted on his X account that the attackers struck not only America but the idea of America itself.

His statement emphasized a nation united by ideals, bound by freedom and justice. On the anniversary of 9/11, he honored those lost in the tragic attack.

“Today on 9/11 we remember the lives that were taken from us in a terrible act of terrorism.”

CBS News Report Criticism

CBS News faced criticism for failing to address El-Sayed’s previous posts relating to 9/11. Hasan Piker, a progressive streamer, had said in the past that the U.S. deserved 9/11, raising concerns about El-Sayed’s associations.

An image surfaced showing Piker with El-Sayed before a campaign rally at the University of Michigan. Critiques from conservative accounts on X labeled El-Sayed a fraud due to his association with Piker.

Responses from Public Figures

Steve Guest, political commentator and former Texas Senator Ted Cruz staffer, echoed criticism by sharing a picture of Piker and El-Sayed together, questioning El-Sayed’s integrity.

“This you?” Guest commented, including a quote from Piker critiquing America.

Ryan Girdusky, GOP consultant, called El-Sayed’s campaign dishonest due to ties with Piker’s controversial views.

Joanna Rodriguez, National Republican Senatorial Committee communications director, stated El-Sayed belittled American lives and showed sympathy for terrorists.

Social Media Critique

GOP strategist Mike Hahn criticized El-Sayed’s script-based responses. Right-wing media group co-founder Joey Mannarino expressed surprise at El-Sayed’s campaign progress, labeling him an extremist.

El-Sayed’s Clarifications

El-Sayed has clarified he doesn’t share all views of Piker, affirming only his spokesperson speaks for the campaign. He shifted focus to core issues like gas prices, groceries, education, and healthcare.

Investigative reporter Chuck Ross noted El-Sayed avoided mentioning post-9/11 wars, a topic he often connects to terror discussions.

El-Sayed highlighted military aggression post-9/11, especially during conflicts involving Israel and Gaza.

Current Campaign Position

Despite rallying with Piker, El-Sayed distanced himself from endorsing Piker’s remarks. He insists on focusing on issues pertinent to Michiganders rather than controversial figures.

The campaign has yet to officially address why there hasn’t been more disavowal of Piker.
