Community Mobilizes to Rescue Survivors in Caracas

In Caracas, Venezuela, a community rallied together to search for survivors after devastating earthquakes. Despite limited equipment, volunteers used basic tools like drills, picks, and hammers to break through concrete in the San Bernardino neighborhood.

On Saturday, the scene at the Residencia Rita was one of relentless determination. The apartment building had collapsed during the quakes, and locals worked tirelessly to find anyone still alive.

The shortage of heavy machinery demonstrated the challenges faced by rescue efforts. However, the massive mobilization by the community showed their resolve to overcome these obstacles.

Residents, including María Alejandra Navarro, a journalist with rescue training, played pivotal roles. Navarro brought a team of 14 volunteers to assist in the rescue. Lines of people passed buckets of rubble to clear pathways, reminiscent of an assembly line.

“We will always have hope,” Navarro stated, capturing the spirit of those involved in the rescue.

Hundreds participated, emphasizing the community’s commitment to locate survivors and aid recovery efforts.
