A Coast Guard helicopter crashed in southeast Alaska during a training exercise, causing injuries to four crew members. The incident occurred on Monday near Sitka in a remote area by Harbor Mountain.
The crash involved an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter. It took place shortly after 10 a.m., according to reports from the Arctic District command center.
“We are incredibly relieved our crew members survived with only minor injuries,” stated Rear Adm. Bob Little, Coast Guard Arctic District commander.
Sitka Fire and Rescue teams arrived at the scene around 11 a.m. and transported the injured crew to Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center. Fortunately, no fatalities occurred during this accident.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
This incident follows several other aviation crashes this month. In Texas, a jet crashed on a highway in Laredo, resulting in one death. Additionally, recent crashes involved a B-52 at Edwards Air Force Base in California and a skydiving plane in Missouri, both resulting in multiple fatalities.
