Chrissy Metz Embraces Weight-Loss Medication Amid Health Concerns

Chrissy Metz, known for her role in ‘This Is Us,’ has shared insights into her decision to use a GLP-1 medication. After years of doubting these popular weight-loss drugs, Metz’s perspective shifted with her health in mind. During a ‘Today’ show appearance, she discussed the influence of entering perimenopause and her family’s obesity history.

Metz expressed initial skepticism, fueled by a friend’s detailed reasoning. Yet, seeing her father’s health issues prompted her to reconsider. She remarked, “Maybe I should try and get ahead of it. It seemed like a good option for me.”

Since starting GLP-1 medication, Metz reports improved energy and overall well-being. Despite her early doubts, longevity remains a priority. She emphasized understanding the drug’s varied effects and the support from her doctor and team, even while feeling nervous about the transition.

Metz clarified, “It’s a whole lifestyle change; it’s not just taking medication. It’s neither an easy option nor a magic solution. It requires diligence, as I’m committed to prioritizing myself.” This includes integrating strength training and regular exercise into her routine.

Her choice continues her public narrative about weight and health. Metz’s breakout role as Kate Pearson on ‘This Is Us’ highlighted similar themes of body image and personal struggles. In a 2017 interview, she noted how many fear those with larger body sizes, stressing education and open dialogue can alter these views.

Metz has openly discussed a fraught history with food and weight, tracing back before her fame. In 2024, she recounted experiencing mental, physical, and emotional difficulties during childhood. Her stepfather imposed strict measures, such as weighing her or threatening to lock food storage.

She acknowledges greater awareness today concerning “food, food issues, and food behavior” than she faced before. “I’m working to heal those wounds, though it’s not easy,” she shared.
